Pedestrian struck, killed crossing SR-50 in Orange County crash, troopers say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A pedestrian crossing State Road 50 in Orange County was struck and killed by a vehicle on Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the fatal crash happened around 9 a.m. on S.R. 50, east of Saint Nicholas Avenue.

According to a crash report, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling east on S.R. 50, east of Saint Nicholas Avenue, when the driver made a U-turn to drive west on S.R. 50.

Troopers said a pedestrian, identified as a 25-year-old Orlando man, was walking north on S.R. 50 not in a marked crosswalk when.

The man walked into the westbound travel lanes into the direct path of the Jeep, according to the FHP.

As a result, the front of the Jeep struck the man. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as a 34-year-old Orlando woman, was not injured and remained on scene, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
