Crash involving semi, truck creates 2 large gouges on Florida’s Turnpike in Lake County

OKAHUMPKA, Fla. – A crash involving a semitrailer and a truck pulling a boat prompted the closure of Florida’s Turnpike in Lake County because the roadway suffered two large gouges, authorities said.

The wreck happened early Friday in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike near Okahumpka.

The Florida Highway Patrol said there were minor injuries reported but did not offer any other details about the wreck.

While crews worked to repair the road, southbound lanes of the Turnpike were blocked and the inside shoulder was used to “flush” traffic, troopers said.

The roadblock was later cleared and the crash remains under investigation.
