BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – The southbound lanes of U.S. 1 in Brevard County were temporarily closed after a 71-year-old man on an e-bike was killed in a crash on Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened on US-1 north of Kings Highway around 8:17 p.m.

According to an FHP report, the crash involved a 2016 Honda Accord and an e-bike.

Troopers said the driver of the Accord — a 36-year-old Titusville man — was not injured and remained at the scene. The driver told troopers that he didn’t see the man on the e-bike because the bicycle allegedly did not have illuminated lights, the report states.

The front of the Accord struck the e-bike as both vehicles traveled southbound on U.S. 1, north of Kings Highway in the inside lane, the bike ahead of the car, troopers said.

The driver of the e-bike, identified as a 71-year-old Titusville man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

FHP is still investigating.
