Mount Dora man dies after crash with tractor-trailer in Sumter County, troopers say

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 63-year-old Mount Dora man died Saturday after a crash that morning with a tractor-trailer in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 11:17 a.m. on State Road 471, north of State Road 50, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the Mount Dora man was driving a Toyota Prius southbound on S.R. 471 as a 32-year-old Hialeah Gardens man drove a tractor-trailer northbound.

For unknown reasons, the Prius crossed the center line and struck the tractor-trailer nearly head-on, the report states.

The Mount Dora man was taken to a hospital, where he later died, troopers said. The Hialeah Gardens man was not injured in the crash, according to FHP.
