OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – There are increasing concerns about traffic problems along Narcoossee Road as Osceola County commissioners prepare to approve another subdivision near the Orange and Osceola county line.
During a meeting on Monday, the commission will vote to approve 289 homes to be built on the northeast corner of Cyrils Drive and Crosswater Boulevard.
The development would be built on 51.58 acres near several other subdivisions that have been constructed in recent years.
All of the homes in the immediate area feed into Narcoossee Road, which has seen a surge in traffic volume over the last few years.
As News 6’s Matt Austin reported last week, according to Metroplan Orlando, the road’s design hasn’t kept pace with the rapid development in Southeast Orange and Northern Osceola counties.
In 2022, Narcoossee Road carried about 38,000 vehicles daily. Today, that number has surged to more than 58,000—exceeding the road’s intended capacity of 55,000 cars per day.

Alejandro Marin has a home in the area and said the situation has been frustrating.
“The traffic is very horrible because they keep building houses around,” Marin said. “When I go to the office, I have to go during certain hours, because otherwise I get a lot of traffic on Narcoossee.”
A new toll road—State Road 534—is in the works to provide an alternate route. However, the project is still in the design phase and won’t be completed for several years.
Commissioners are expected to vote on the proposed development during their regular meeting on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
