MELBOURNE, Fla. – A 70-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run crash, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
Police responded around 5:33 a.m. to the crash at the intersection of Eau Gallie Boulevard and Highland Avenue.

Police said they found the injured cyclist, later identified as 70-year-old James Griffin from Melbourne, who was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to the release, the bicyclist was traveling west on Eau Gallie Boulevard in a designated bicycle lane when a light-colored car turned west on Eau Gallie Boulevard from the intersection of Pineapple Avenue.
Police said witnesses reported the vehicle was driving erratically, swerving and squealing tires before striking the bicyclist and continuing west on Eau Gallie Boulevard without stopping.
On Friday, police said the vehicle was found at a property on St. Clair Street after reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses and residences. The vehicle was collected and police said they are working to identify the driver.
