ORLANDO, Fla. – Almost a year after Orlando approved placing cameras outside dozens of schools, the city council now knows which company will install them.
Many Central Florida municipalities have added cameras to school zones to discourage speeding and keep students safe. Last December, the city approved moving forward with the plan. Since then, they have been working to decide which company will install the cameras.
On Monday, the council approved an agreement with Verra Mobility to install cameras at 26 school zones.

These are the locations where the city plans to install the cameras:
- Audubon Park School, Westbound on Corrine Drive
- Blankner Elementary School, Northbound on Mills Avenue
- Boone High School, Northbound on Mills Avenue
- Boone High School, Southbound on Mills Avenue
- College Park Middle School, Eastbound on Maury Road
- College Park Middle School, Westbound on Maury Avenue
- Dover Shores Elementary School, Southbound on Conway Road
- Dover Shores Elementary School, Southbound on Gaston Foster Road
- Engelwood Elementary School, Eastbound on La Costa Drive
- Innovation Middle School, Southbound on Storey Park Boulevard
- Innovation Middle School, Northbound on Storey Park Boulevard
- Lake Como K-8 School, Northbound on South Bumby Avenue
- Lake Como K-8 School, Westbound on East Gore Street
- Lake Silver Elementary School, Northbound on Rio Grande Avenue
- Lake Silver Elementary School, Southbound on Rio Grande Avenue
- Laureate Park Elementary School, Eastbound on Laureate Boulevard
- MetroWest/Westpointe Elementary School, Southbound on Lake Vilma Drive
- Millenia Gardens Elementary School, Westbound on Millenia Boulevard
- Millenia Gardens Elementary School, Eastbound on Millenia Boulevard
- Odyssey Middle School, Southbound on Lee Vista Boulevard
- Roberto Clemente Middle School, Westbound on Roberto Clemente Road
- Rock Lake Elementary School, Northbound on North Tampa Avenue
- Sun Blaze Elementary School, Northbound on Randal Park Boulevard
- Sun Blaze Elementary School, Southbound on Randal Park Boulevard
- Vista Pointe Elementary School, Westbound on Market Place Drive
- Vista Pointe Elementary School, Eastbound on Market Place Drive
Similar to red light cameras, these devices will catch drivers going at least 10 mph over the posted school zone limit. Violators will receive a $100 ticket.
“I think there are pros and cons to it,” driver Brandon Bowen said.
“I think that the positive side is to ensure that kids aren’t in danger of getting hit, that definitely puts it in someone’s mind to be mindful of how they’re and how fast they’re going. So, I think that’s the best part about it. But if you’re someone that’s not paying attention, of course, you’re probably going to get hit with a hefty fine.”
According to the city, the schools chosen for cameras were selected because they are at high risk of incidents.
“I think it’s a very good idea. Because I do see drivers not considering the speed limit. So it’s a good thing to add,” driver Amy Castillo said.

In August, Orange County approved adding school zone speed cameras to 12 of its schools.
