1 injured in 5-vehicle crash involving semis on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County

Southbound lanes reopen near mile marker 257

Turnpike crash (FDOT)

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A multivehicle crash early Friday shut down southbound lanes of Florida’s Turnpike for several hours in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just after 2:30 a.m. near mile marker 257.

According to troopers, a 2017 BMW X6 and a 2021 semi collided, causing the BMW to become disabled in the roadway.

A 2017 Hyundai Tucson and a 2007 semi struck the back of the BMW, the FHP said. The semi then jackknifed and became disabled in the inside lane.

The impact from the semi caused the BMW to rotate and collide with a 2026 semi that was stopped because of the crashes ahead.

All lanes were shut down but later reopened after 6:15 a.m. Traffic is still delayed despite lanes being reopened.

The driver of the 2007 semi, a 51-year-old from Lake City, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The other drivers were uninjured.

This crash comes days after a semitrailer driver was killed when his rig slammed into the back of another tractor-trailer and caught fire on Florida’s Turnpike in Osceola County, according to troopers.

The fatal three-vehicle wreck caused the Turnpike to be closed for hours near Kissimmee.

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information as we receive it.
