St. Cloud, Fla. – A man riding an electric scooter was struck and killed Saturday in St. Cloud, and police are seeking information in the traffic fatality.
The wreck was reported around 6 p.m. on Old Canoe Creek Road, north of Clay Whaley Road.
St. Cloud police on Monday identified the victim as 48-year-old Angel Sanchez.
Police said Sanchez was riding an electric “Razor-style” scooter south along Old Canoe Creek Road when, for unknown reasons, he entered the roadway.
Police said they believe Sanchez was struck by multiple vehicles.
“No drivers that struck Sanchez stayed at the scene, and because of the dark and rainy conditions at the time, they may not know that they had struck a man,” police said in a statement.
Having seen several crashes here, Maritesally De Jesus is upset, but not surprised about the fatal crash that happened in front of her home.
“It’s really busy with that construction and 6 p.m., everything is dark.”
“Whether it’s one car or two cars, I want them to find the people responsible for closure for the family.”
St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke says people need to be mindful of those riding e-scooters and bicycles.
“You have to be careful, bicyclists also have access to the roadway as well so it’s a shared responsibility on the road.”
A GoFundMe has been set up for 48 year old Angel Sanchez.
It says he was a loving husband and father, and was only about 15 minutes away from his home.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the St. Cloud Police Department at 407-891-6700, or remain anonymous and call Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
This is a developing story and will be updated with more information.
