ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A driver who was assisting a pedestrian whom he struck in Orange County was injured when another vehicle hit him and the pedestrian before fleeing the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The pedestrian died in the crash, which happened around 11:10 p.m. Monday on Silver Star Road at Le Havre Boulevard, east of Evans High School.

The FHP said the first motorist was driving a 2003 Honda Accord east on Silver Star Road when a man walked into the eastbound lanes and was not in a crosswalk.

The Honda struck the man, and the driver — a 36-year-old Orlando man — got out and began assisting the pedestrian, troopers said.

Another vehicle then approached the intersection and struck both men, according to an FHP crash report.

The driver stopped, exited the vehicle and briefly checked on the damage to their car before driving away, the FHP said.

The pedestrian was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead, the crash report stated.

The driver who stopped to help suffered minor injuries, according to troopers.

Troopers said in an update Saturday that the driver of the second vehicle had contacted law enforcement on Tuesday to report she was involved in a crash the prior night. Investigators made contact with the vehicle — a 2024 Chevy Malibu — and took it into evidence after observing damage consistent with the crash, according to the update.

FHP is still investigating.
