According to deputies, the Coleman CT200U minibike was traveling southbound on Utah Drive and stopped at the intersection. It then failed to yield to the westbound motorcycle on Captain Drive, crossing into its path and causing a T-bone collision with the motorcycle.

Both riders were thrown from their vehicles. Despite wearing a helmet, the motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene, deputies said.

The minibike rider, a 17-year-old visiting from Massachusetts, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office noted the minibike was unregistered, had no lights, and was not street legal. The 17-year-old also did not have a driver’s license.

Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
