The road is also known as Space Commerce Way, which was recently widened from two lanes to four lanes. It’s a throughway off State Road 405 and the recently redone NASA Causeway Bridge to State Road 3.

It’s also a key connector for the commercial space industry, with connections to Kennedy Space Center, Space Florida, Exploration Park, and other aerospace facilities. The widening project was meant to improve traffic flow and safety.

The state says the addition of State Road 321 shows Florida is providing the infrastructure needed to maintain Florida as an important space port. Now that the road has a state designation, FDOT will be in charge of upkeep.

In addition to widening State Road 321, FDOT also turned the NASA Causeway Bridge into a wider and taller fixed-span bridge last year.

The road’s 321 designation, like Brevard County’s area code, is also significant for the area, mirroring the all-important launch countdown.
