LEESBURG, Fla. – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a van Friday night in Leesburg, according to police.

The crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and County Road 48, the Leesburg Police Department said in a statement.

Citing preliminary info, police said a white 2016 van being driven by a 50-year-old Orlando man struck the pedestrian — a 53-year-old Leesburg man who was crossing the road — while the driver traveled southbound on U.S. 27.

The Leesburg man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, adding southbound lanes of U.S. 27 were closed for abound three hours during the investigation.
