OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says it’s looking for a Tesla driver accused of ramming a deputy’s patrol car and fleeing on foot after driving over spike strips and crashing early Sunday.
A deputy observing the white Tesla on Poinciana Boulevard and U.S. 192 around 4:20 a.m. noted the driver appeared to be passed out or asleep behind the wheel, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said in a statement.

The driver woke up as the deputy was waiting for backup, ramming the patrol car with the Tesla and driving off after leaving minor damage to the deputy’s vehicle, the spokesperson said.
After the driver started to flee westbound on U.S. 192, deputies successfully deployed spike strips that the Tesla soon drove over, the statement reads. The Tesla crashed into a barrier after the driver attempted to take it onto Interstate 4, at which time the driver then exited the vehicle and ran away, according to the statement.
A search involving a K-9 was unsuccessful, and the driver was still at large at the time of this writing, the sheriff’s office said.
“(We) have an identity on him and an arrest warrant is being obtained,” the statement reads.
