ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man who was arrested Friday night in Orange County is accused of speeding on Interstate 4 and running from troopers with drugs in the car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 8:30 p.m., a trooper at mile marker 79 (John Young Parkway) began following a vehicle after seeing it traveling westbound at 94 mph, an FHP arrest report states.

The vehicle showed no signs of yielding despite the trooper’s active lights and sirens, according to the report. The trooper further reported seeing the vehicle making an aggressive lane change and nearly hitting multiple other drivers in an attempt to flee and elude capture.

After exiting I-4 near mile marker 76 onto northbound Grand National Drive, troopers said the pursuit continued on Major Boulevard. There, the second of two ensuing PIT maneuvers left the vehicle disabled before reaching the intersection with State Road 535, according to FHP.

The rear window of the vehicle was punched out in order for the driver — who was identified as Akram Ahmed, 44, of Winter Park — to be extricated, troopers said.

Ahmed faces charges of fleeing police at high speed with disregard to the safety of persons and property, possession of drugs with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer without violence, driving while license revoked as habitual offender and two counts of failure of defendant to appear, records show.

He’s being held on no bond.
