ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man riding a motorcycle early Sunday on South Orange Avenue died after striking a curb and being thrown from the bike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 2:38 a.m., north of Wetherbee Road, as the rider traveled southbound, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the rider — a 49-year-old Orlando man — was traveling above the posted speed limit and failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle ran off the roadway right, struck a curb, and the rider was thrown off of it, the report states.

The rider was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to FHP. Troopers said he was wearing a helmet during the crash.

FHP is still investigating.
