Orange County car chase sparks traffic block along highway, troopers say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A car chase along State Road 408 on Wednesday afternoon sparked a small traffic block on the highway in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a release, the FHP told News 6 that a trooper spotted a red Kia speeding along the highway shortly before 4 p.m.

“When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, and a pursuit began,” the release reads. “Our trooper was able to conduct a successful PIT maneuver in the area of State Road 408 near mile marker 5.”

After the Kia was taken down, the driver fled on foot into the woods, though the trooper was ultimately able to catch the driver, investigators reported.

Afterward, the driver was placed under arrest and taken to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, the FL511 notes that police activity was present on the highway as of around 5:30 p.m. As a result, the right lane of the on-ramp from State Road 435 was blocked.
