Driver arrested after video shows passengers riding on hood of moving vehicle, Belle Isle police say

BELLE ISLE, Fla. – A driver was arrested, and four passengers were cited after Belle Isle police posted video on social media showing the group riding on the hood of a moving vehicle.

Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, an officer pulled over the vehicle traveling 40 mph through Belle Isle, police said. The driver, Gary Mathurin, was issued three citations and arrested on a charge of reckless driving.

“We’re all for making memories with friends, but becoming a traffic safety lesson isn’t the kind of memory anyone should be aiming for.” Belle Isle police said in the social media post.

Each of the four passengers found on the roof was cited for riding on the exterior of a vehicle. One passenger also received a citation for an open container.
