MAITLAND, Fla. - Drivers who use Westbound Maitland Boulevard to access I-4 West can prepare for even more changes overnight Thursday, which will lead to a few changes for Friday morning commuter.
Traffic anchor Amy Biondello has all the details to keep you moving safe and on time.
The latest shift at the Maitland Boulevard and I-4 interchange will again impact Westbound travel.
"Right now, you need to stay to the left and get on the old bridge that would bring you to Westbound I-4, now you'll want to stay and go up the elevated lanes that we opened two weeks ago and then once you're on top of the bridge you'll want to stay to the left in the left two lanes,” Florida Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jessica Ottaviano said. “You'll reach a signal that will allow you to get onto Westbound I-4."
Eventually the shift will allow for a more efficient traffic flow.
"It will be a lot easier because all traffic actually goes in the same direction and then it will be your same consistent patterns, stay in the left to get on Westbound I-4, stay straight to get onto Westbound Maitland Boulevard and then be in the right lane for Eastbound I-4,” Ottaviano said.
Two existing traffic signals will also be removed as part of this latest update.
"From Eastbound Matiland Boulevard where you actually had to stop at a signal to get onto Eastbound I-4 and so it created a little bit of back up there, now that signal goes away."
That ramp will now cross under Maitland, allowing for free flowing traffic at the busy interchange. The Hope Road signal will also be eliminated at the entrance to the interstate.
"Just remember that traffic patterns change daily and to just be calm and patient with drivers adjusting to all the changes,” Ottaviano said.
