FAA orders inspections of Boeing 737 MAX

The FAA is ordering mandatory inspections on nearly 500 Boeing 737 Max aircraft in the US, but the order could impact as many as nearly 1500 airliners around the world. Now this stems from an issue found on earlier generations of the 737 where cracks developed in what's known as a bear strap around the forward galley cabin door. The bear strap reinforces areas around doorways and emergency exits, but over time, The stress of takeoffs and landings can lead to cracking near door corners. Boeing says it first warned airlines about this issue in the MAX in 2024. This order from the FAA sets a timeline for mandatory inspections to catch cracks before they become a safety issue. So far, Boeing says there have been no cracks found in any Max jets specifically, and Boeing says it is working on a manufacturing fix for future airplanes.
