Hold on to your hats, breezy conditions expected in Central Florida

Average high in Orlando is 83 degrees

ORLANDO, Fla. – A large ridge of high pressure is now in control across the Southeast, keeping conditions consistently comfortable through the majority of the week across Central Florida.

Although most of the area will stay mostly dry, we will keep a slight 10% chance of rain as a sprinkle or two cannot be ruled out along the coast.

Highs this week are expected to remain near average, in the mid- to lower 80s, under mostly clear skies, with overnight temperatures cooling into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.

The only issue in the forecast this week will be our strengthening breeze off the ocean, with winds reaching 15-20 mph. Boaters and beachgoers beware as deteriorating conditions are expected.

Expect a high risk of life-threatening rip currents and choppy seas.

TROPICS WATCH

We are now tracking two systems in the tropics.

Hurricane Tammy remains a Category 1 storm with winds of 75 mph as it continues to track north.

The official forecast cone shows Tammy making a turn to the west by the weekend, approaching Bermuda by Saturday.

Meantime, the National Hurricane Center on Monday designated an area in the southwest Caribbean Sea as Tropical Depression 21.

The storm is expected to be short-lived as it makes landfall in Nicaragua, with flooding rain stretching into Honduras through Tuesday.

So far this hurricane season, we’ve seen 94 days in which a named storm was being tracked in the tropics. That’s the 6th most on record at this point of the season.
