Cool day, wetter night before next cold front brings severe threat again to Central Florida

Friday is Weather Alert Day

ORLANDO, Fla. – One more cool day is ahead for Central Florida as highs remain below normal in the mid 60s.

On Thursday, deep moisture will start creeping north as a warm front lifts overhead increasing humidity levels and cloud cover.

Once the clouds are in place, a 60-70% chance for scattered showers will then move in by Thursday night and into early Friday.

By Friday afternoon, all of Central Florida will be stuck in the warm zone of our approaching cold front. In this warm environment highs are expected to quickly climb into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.

Later in the evening Friday, another cold front will begin slide through the region and clearing southern counties by daybreak on Saturday.

Although there remains a bit of uncertainty on how strong storms could be Friday night, scattered showers will be likely with some developing into stronger storms. Damaging winds would be the primary concern, along with a chance for a brief isolated tornado.

Because of this threat, News 6 Weather Team is designating Friday evening as Weather Alert Day.

This weekend starts off with a drop in temperatures. Cooler and relatively drier air settles in behind the front as highs remain in the mid 60s Saturday and Sunday.

For Martin Luther King Jr. Day, models are hinting at moisture surging back north as another warm front lifts from the Florida Straits, increasing showers. Monday is looking to be a warmer day with highs reaching the mid 70s with a southerly wind flow.
