ORLANDO, Fla. – Have you stepped outside lately and thought, “Wait, is it summer already?”
A strong high-pressure system is setting up over the Gulf, turning up the heat across Florida just in time for the weekend.
Although summer doesn’t start until June 20, we’re heading into a stretch of dry, hot, sunny days with no rain relief in sight.
This is the kind of pattern that will bring some of the hottest conditions since early August.
Highs on Thursday will climb into the low to mid-90s inland, while coastal areas stay a bit cooler in the upper 80s.
Temperatures crank up even higher by the weekend and into early next week.
Expect the mid-90s almost areawide, with a few spots even reaching the upper 90s, flirting with record highs.
Coastal communities will generally stay in the low 90s, but places like Daytona Beach may come close to breaking records, especially on Friday and Saturday.
What will it feel like?
With humidity creeping back in through the weekend, heat indicies could be pushing levels up to 100-105 degrees.
One important note: While this kind of heat is typical for summer, it’s well above normal for mid-May, and most of us just aren’t acclimated yet. So take it easy outdoors, stay hydrated and make sure you’ve got a way to stay cool.
