ORLANDO, Fla. – After a welcome extended quiet stretch in the Atlantic, Tropical Depression 7, which formed Wednesday morning in the central Atlantic, become Tropical Storm Gabrielle.
The storm has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and is moving north-northwest at 22 mph.
The storm is expected to stay north of the Caribbean and turn well before Florida and the U.S.
Gabrielle could become the second hurricane of the season as it lifts north of the Caribbean by the weekend.
The National Hurricane Center is also highlighting a tropical wave near Africa.
Development chances of the wave stand at 20% over the next seven days.
Hurricane season runs through Nov. 30.
