Coastal flooding possible as storm develops off Florida coast

Coastal flood watch in effect for Flagler, Volusia, Brevard counties

Coastal storm

ORLANDO, Fla.King Tides combined with a developing storm off of the Florida coast could create flooding along the coast.

While pockets of heavy rain will be possible along the Florida coast Thursday and Friday that could cause minor flooding in poor drainage areas, coastal flooding is the flooding brought on by wind and/or high astronomical tides.

Coastal flood watch

All of the Central Florida coastline, Flagler, Volusia and Brevard counties, are under a coastal flood watch through Saturday night, meaning coastal flooding is possible.

If the forecast holds, a coastal flood warning will likely be issued.

For perspective, tides are expected to come in higher than the tides of the past week.

Road closures and structure flooding will be possible along the coast.

The St. Johns River will also be impacted by the stiff wind and higher-than-normal tides. The combination will act to force up the river.

St. Johns At Astor

As of Wednesday night, the St. Johns River at Astor remains in moderate flood stage. The St. Johns River through Volusia and Seminole counties could jump into action stage.
