Central Florida braces for New Year’s cooldown after warm December

Above-average warmth gives way to a chill as fog and breezy conditions linger through the weekend

ORLANDO, Fla. – Get ready for a wardrobe change: Central Florida is gearing up for a noticeable cooldown right as New Year’s Eve arrives. A strong cold front is forecast to move through the region, bringing cooler temperatures to the area next week.

This shift comes after a stretch of unseasonably warm weather. Friday’s high is expected to be in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Friday

Above-average temperatures and sunshine before the cooldown

Highs

Little to no rain in the forecast. Daytime skies are forecast to be mainly sunny with only isolated clouds, and overnight conditions look mostly clear through the weekend.

Foggy mornings and breezy conditions along the coast

Early risers should be ready for patchy fog both Saturday and Sunday mornings, especially before sunrise. Anyone heading out early should “allow extra traveling time” due to limited visibility in some spots.

The coast will also stay breezy through the weekend, with wind gusts forecast between 10 and 15 mph. Inland locations are not expected to be as windy. The combination of dry air, a high-pressure system to the west, and breezy weather means rain chances remain low.

Looking ahead

Daytime highs are forecast to hover near 80 degrees into Monday before the strong front moves in. Lows will start in the upper 50s, but by midweek, you can expect overnight temperatures to drop into the low 40s in some areas. Skies should remain mostly sunny, with very limited rain expected through the forecast period.
