Summer-like feel continues with a few storms possible

Damaging winds, hail, and high temperatures in the lower 90s expected

ORLANDO, Fla. – A cold front is stalled over northern Florida, setting the stage for showers and thunderstorms possibly developing during the afternoon and evening.

Much of Central Florida falls into a level one out of five severe risk, which means a few of these storms could become strong to severe. The main hazards are damaging wind gusts forecast from 45 to 60 mph and the potential for quarter-size hail. Although less likely, isolated tornadoes remain possible in some of the stronger rotating thunderstorms.

While specific boundaries for the severe risk area weren’t mentioned, the green-shaded map shown by Morgan highlights a broad swath across central and northern portions of the state. For anyone with outdoor plans, staying weather-aware is the best move as conditions may develop rapidly.

Hot temperatures stick around for Orlando and surrounding areas

The heat isn’t going anywhere soon. Friday’s daytime highs are expected to reach into the lower 90s across the Orlando metro—think 92 degrees in Clermont, Leesburg, and Wildwood, and not much cooler along the coast, with 88 in Cocoa Beach and 89 in Melbourne. News 6’s meteorologist reminds viewers to stay hydrated and not forget the sunscreen if spending time outdoors.

If you’re planning around the weekend, prepare for even hotter conditions with a high of 95 degrees forecast for Saturday and 94 degrees Sunday in Orlando. A slight break may come with an approaching front early next week, dipping highs back to 91 degrees on Monday.

Rain and storm timing for your Friday plans

Showers are likely to pop up in the afternoon, with more widespread thunderstorms forecast around the 5 p.m. hour. News 6 Pinpoint Weather’s outlook shows the most intense downpours may track along the I-4 corridor, with some lingering storms expected to stick around into the evening, especially over southern counties.

Rain chances sit at 30 percent for Friday, dropping to 20 to 30 percent for the weekend. By Monday, that next front bumps storm coverage up to 40 percent, keeping another round of showers on the radar as the new week gets underway.
