ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is in for another classic summer stretch with temperatures climbing into the 90s, heat index values topping 100 degrees, and scattered afternoon thunderstorms expected to develop.
Sea breezes will collide through the day on Friday, bringing the highest chance of rain and storms (40-50%) across inland neighborhoods from mid-afternoon through the early evening.
While not everyone will see rain, a few storms could become strong. The main threats include frequent lightning, wind gusts up to 55 mph, small hail, and heavy downpours.
Before the storms arrive, the heat will once again be the biggest story. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid 90s, while humidity pushes feels-like temperatures into the 100 to 105 degree range.
Looking ahead
The hot and humid pattern continues through the rest of the weekend. Saturday offers the better chance for afternoon storms, while Sunday’s rain coverage may be a little lower if slightly drier air moves into the area.
Next week, moisture is expected to increase once again as a weak boundary settles near Florida. That means more widespread afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely beginning Monday, while temperatures remain in the 90s with heat index values continuing to top 100 degrees.
