ORLANDO, Fla. – October is packed with reasons to look forward to the month, besides pumpkin-spiced everything. We’ve got five Saturdays, a meteor shower, the Hunter’s Moon and Halloween falling on a Saturday. And just when you think the fun is over, the clocks roll back that night, giving us an extra hour of trick-or-treating.
FIVE SATURDAYS!
October 2026 starts on a Thursday, which means we get a bonus Saturday this month: October 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. More Saturdays means more fall weekends to pack in all the fun.
METEOR SHOWER
The Orionid meteor shower will light up the October sky, with the peak expected overnight October 21 into October 22. The Orionids come from debris left behind by Halley’s Comet, and under dark skies, you could see roughly 10 to 20 meteors per hour.
THE HUNTER’S MOON
October’s full moon is traditionally known as the Hunter’s Moon. The full moon occurs late October 25.
HALLOWEEN ON A SATURDAY!
This might be the biggest October bonus of all. Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31.
And there’s one more timing treat. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 1, when the clocks roll back one hour. That means Halloween night gets an extra hour for costumes, candy and fun.
October is shaping up to be a busy month in the sky and on the calendar. Now all we need is some cooler weather to make it feel like fall.
So while October may not deliver the classic fall weather just yet, there’s still plenty happening to make the month feel special.
