Hurricane center monitors area of low pressure in Atlantic

First named storm of season will be called Andrea

ORLANDO, Fla. – After the slowest start to the season in 11 years, it looks like we could be close to naming the first storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.

The National Hurricane Center over the weekend began highlighting an area of low pressure about 500 miles east of Bermuda.

Computer models show it could become a short-lived tropical depression or a named storm sometime Monday.

The area has a 70% chance of development over the next two days.

NHC Outlook

If it does get a name, it will be called Andrea.

Here's a look at the upcoming named storm list for the hurricane season. We will likely start seeing names ticked off the list within the next month or so (Copyright 2025 by WKMG ClickOrlando - All rights reserved.)

By Tuesday, conditions will become more hostile, limiting further development.

Model Runs

The area should stay a “fish-storm,” moving further out into the northern Atlantic.
