Suntree YMCA to close before Christmas

Gym to shut down Dec. 22, memberships will transfer to other YMCA locations

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – The Brevard County YMCA location in Suntree will close the Friday before Christmas.

Gym members were told Wednesday that the YMCA would close Dec. 22 and that their memberships would transfer to the Cocoa YMCA or the Titusville location, reported News 6 partner Florida Today.

“Upcoming construction scheduled near the location prompted us to consider alternative options to better serve families in the area," a spokesperson for the YMCA said in an email to News 6. "The association is evaluating a number of opportunities, and will stay connected with Melbourne and Viera-area families to share updates as they are available.”

A Facebook post to the YMCA Suntree page was flooded with commenters expressing their disappointment at the longstanding gym's impending closure.

"Over the last 16 years, the YMCA of Central Florida has been proud to serve you at our Suntree YMCA Family Center and work together in the pursuit of a better us," the post read. "Therefore, it is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our Suntree YMCA Family Center will be closing its doors after Friday, Dec. 22."

Community members can visit ymcacf.org/suntree for more information about the gym closing.

The gym is one of 27 YMCA locations across Central Florida.
