8 more Central Florida eateries shut down over roaches, rodents and more

ORLANDO, Fla. – Last week, eight more eateries across Central Florida were told to close temporarily after a visit from a health inspector, according to the Florida DBPR.

Health inspection records reveal that these restaurants suffered problems with rodents, cockroaches, time/temperature issues, and other types of violations.

However, all restaurants were eventually allowed to reopen within a few days, those records show.

Below are all of the eight restaurants that were forced to close down between Sept. 22 and Sept. 28.


COCOA

  • Royal Sushi — 2301 State Road 524
    • Closed on Sept. 24
      • “Yellow slimy substance” found in ice machine
      • Three dead roaches discovered under the kitchen’s hot holding steam table
      • In total, 17 live roaches were found on the premises near places like the rice cooker and washing area
      • Time/temperature violations for various different food items and ingredients
    • Met inspection standards on Sept. 25

DAYTONA BEACH

  • Strouds Hog Heaven — 37 N. Atlantic Ave.
    • Closed on Sept. 23
      • Four live, flying insects found behind an ice machine
      • Holes found with “vermin activity” present
      • Around 20 rodent droppings discovered on the premises
    • Met inspection standards on Sept. 24

HAINES CITY

  • Checkers — 36114 N. US Hwy. 27
    • Closed on Sept. 24
      • Over 20 dead roaches were discovered on the premises
      • Three live roaches found on the door of the ice cream machine
      • One live roach found on the wall by the ice cream machine
    • Met inspection standards on Sept. 25

NEW SMYRNA BEACH

  • Osaka Sushi and Hibachi — 705 N. Dixie Hwy.
    • Closed on Sept. 23
      • Food stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler and freezer
      • Alka-Seltzer improperly stored over food cookline
      • Raw chicken stored over cooked soup cookline, and raw fish kept over sauce in walk-in cooler
      • Over 30 rodent droppings discovered on the premises
      • Time/temperature violations for edamame, pork belly, black garlic oil and salmon
    • Met inspection standards on Sept. 23

OCALA

  • El Patron Mexican Grill & Bar — 3101 SW 34 Ave.
    • Closed on Sept. 23
      • Over 20 dead roaches found on the premises
      • Around eight live roaches found on a glue trap under the kitchen’s prep table
      • Another eight live roaches were found in the kitchen area
      • Raw fish stored below raw beef in the walk-in cooler
      • Time/temperature violations for fish, chicken, beef and pork
    • Met inspection standards on Sept. 26

ORLANDO

  • Hoffner Catering & Supply — 4880 B Distribution Court
    • Closed on Sept. 25
      • Seven small, flying insects found inside
      • Live roach seen crawling on the prep table
      • Nearly 40 rodent droppings discovered in the restaurant
      • Outside pots and trays not sanitized
      • Non-food-grade wood board in ice truck in contact with ice
      • Raw shell eggs stored over cooked fried rice in walk-in cooler
    • Met inspection standards on Sept. 26
  • Jersey Mike’s Subs — 10208 Curry Ford Road
    • Closed on Sept. 23
      • Over 20 small, flying insects found in the kitchen area
      • Time/temperature violations for shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes
    • Met inspection standards on Sept. 25

PALM BAY

  • The Shack Riverfront — 4845 Dixie Hwy. NE
    • Closed on Sept. 23
      • Live roach found in a coffeepot
      • Over 50 rodent droppings discovered on the premises
      • Food and trash built up around equipment at the bar
      • Noticeable trail of contamination running to sewer drain exterior of the restaurant
      • Uncovered ice cream found with dripping water from freezer top
    • Met inspection standards on Sept. 24
