Troopers ID woman, 18, killed after tire tread separates on I-95

Woman lost control of Toyota Prius, troopers say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – An 18-year-old Kissimmee woman died Friday afternoon after a tire tread separated on the Toyota Prius she was driving and the car crashed into a pole off of northbound I-95 in southern Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened at about 2:55 p.m. at mile marker 162, a few miles south of Micco Road, troopers said.

According to the Highway Patrol, the woman, later identified as Gia Alban, lost control of the Prius when the tread separated, causing the car to veer off the road and crash.

Alban died at the scene, according to the crash report. She was wearing a seat belt when the crash took place, the report said.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Highway Patrol.
