Jesse Coggins, 53, shot, killed in scuffle

HOLLY HILL, Fla. – The man who Holly Hill police say donned a mask and attacked a Little Ceasar's worker had an extensive criminal history, according to court records.

Police identified the attacker who was shot and killed by the worker during the attack as Jesse L. Coggins, 53.  A police spokesperson said Coggins was from North Carolina, and he had no local address.

News 6 investigated and found out Coggins' last known address was a motel in Greenville, North Carolina, which has been closed down.

According to court documents, he also had a criminal history that streched as far back as 1984.

In October, he was charged with attempted robbery with a deadly weapon in Pitt County, North Carolina.

According to court records over the years, Coggins has also faced charges of assault, abduction and indecency with a child under the age of 12.

Police are still trying to determine why Coggins was in Florida on Sunday night when the attack happened.
