The investigation began on Aug. 7th.

Officers say they immediately opened an investigation, and the employee has not been on campus during the current school year when students are present.

Detectives say they’re continuing to investigate the circumstances around the incident to determine whether a crime was committed.

Officers say this is an active investigation and additional details are limited.

News 6 reached out to the district to ask about the state of the employee’s job and if there is anything they have to say about the investigation.

They responded, saying, “Volusia County Schools is aware of the NSBPD’s active investigation involving a New Smyrna Beach High School employee. Because this is an ongoing law enforcement matter, the district cannot comment further.”
