FHP activates emergency shoulder use for drivers on I-4 from Tampa to Orlando Drivers not allowed to use right shoulder, troopers say No description found
ORLANDO, Fla. – State officials have activated a limited emergency shoulder use plan for people traveling on Interstate 4 to evacuate as Hurricane Irma continues its trek toward Florida, the Florida Highway Patrol said Saturday.
The emergency plan allows drivers to use the left shoulder from Tampa to Orlando as directed by law enforcement officers and highway signs, troopers said.
Drivers may not exceed 40 mph while driving on the shoulder and are asked to use caution, the Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said drivers may not use the right shoulder.
Shoulder use is not allowed on any other state roadways at this time, troopers said.
Additionally, officials will close the Florida Turnpike Fort Pierce and Fort Drum service plazas at 8:00 p.m. Officials have also closed The Skyway Bridge.
