TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A bill sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk on Thursday may soon name a roadway in Florida after President Donald Trump.
That bill (HB 987) aims to give new designations to several stretches of highways in the state, intended to memorialize and honor important figures from Florida.
While there are 20 designations overall, only five can be found in Central Florida. They are as follows:
- Master Deputy Bradley Link Memorial Highway (Lake County) — Portion of US-27 within the boundaries of Minneola
- Named after the eponymous deputy who was killed in action during a disturbing ambush in Eustis last year
- Sheriff Gary S. Borders Memorial Highway (Lake County) — Portion of SR-19 and CR-48 in Howey-In-The-Hills
- Named after the former sheriff of Lake County, who eventually retired to Howey-In-The-Hills before passing away in 2021
- Geraldine Thompson Way (Orange County) — Portion of West South Street between South Division Avenue and US-441
- Named after a former state senator who represented Orange County for nearly 20 years before passing away earlier this year
- Harris Rosen Way (Orange County) — Portion of International Drive between SR-528 and Sand Lake Road
- Named after the founder of Rosen Hotels & Resorts who passed away in November 2024
- Sergeant Karl Strohsal Memorial Highway (Seminole County) — Portion of SR-400 east of the Central Parkway Bridge in the city of Longwood
- Named after a Longwood police officer who was fatally struck by another vehicle in Volusia County back in 2007
But one designation included in the proposal would name a South Florida roadway after Trump himself: “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.”
That would apply to a portion of Southern Boulevard between Kirk Road and South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach.
That’s the roadway between the facility used by Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport and Mar-a-Lago.
The bill would require the Florida Department of Transportation to set up markers for each of the new designations, with an estimated cost of $2,400 per designation (each designation has two signs, estimated at $1,200).
Furthermore, the bill received unanimous approval from state lawmakers, who sent the legislation to DeSantis’ desk alongside 11 other bills.
If DeSantis chooses to sign off on HB 987, it is slated to take effect on July 1, alongside over 80 other new Florida laws. For a full list of these upcoming laws, click here.
