Man ran off after confrontation with bank employee, police say

DeLAND, Fla. – DeLand police are searching for a man who held up a Florida Credit Union with a hammer while wearing a Sonic the Hedgehog mask.

Officers were called to the credit union at 1735 N. Woodland Blvd. Wednesday, just before 4:30 p.m.

Witnesses said a masked man demanded money while hitting the teller’s window with the hammer, according to investigators.

Officers said a bank employee confronted the man in the Sonic mask and the would-be crook ran off and headed north on Woodland Boulevard.

Investigators said, in addition to the Sonic mask, the man was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and was carrying a black or gray bag.
