According to a Volusia County Beach Safety incident report, first responders arrived at the scene around noon due to poor road conditions from the hurricane.

Officials said Riney was pulled out of the deeper surf, but she was unable to be pulled to the beach accessway due to high surf and weather conditions. A first responder was able to reach her said Riney had no pulse, and she was then “swept out to sea.”

About 30 minutes later, a caller reported seeing a body in the surf and Riney’s body was recovered, officials said.

No foul play was suspected in Riney’s death, the incident report stated.
