VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Volusia County man was sentenced to eight years in prison on Tuesday after a jury found him guilty of two counts of failure to properly register as a sex offender.

During a period from October 2019 to February 2020, Minton had provided the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office with a cellphone number that, via a search warrant, investigators learned did not match the phone number with which Minton used to register. Additionally, detectives found an email account that Minton failed to register, according to the release.

Minton’s eight-year sentence will be followed by two years of community control, the release states.

Minton is still awaiting trial in a 2020 battery case, accused of assaulting a woman whom he drove to a sports bar for an interview, then to a secluded area.

A court hearing is set for April 18, ahead of an April 24 trial date barring a continuance.
