Florida prison inmate escapes during work detail, officials say

APALACHICOLA, Fla. – Florida Department of Corrections officials are looking for a prison inmate who escaped a work detail in North Florida.

Officials said Robert Rutherford was working near a bridge in Apalachicola on Monday when he escaped. A large-scale search was initiated, but so far he hasn’t been found.

Corrections officials said Rutherford was serving a 20-year sentence at the Franklin Correctional Institution.

He was convicted in 2011 for multiple counts of armed burglary, grand theft, trafficking stolen property and other charges out of Pasco County.

If you see Rutherford, do not approach him and call 911 immediately.
