Fiber optic drilling puts entire Town of Eatonville under boil water advisory

EATONVILLE, Fla. – A fiber optic operation caused a water main break in the Town of Eatonville on Monday, according to city officials. Now the town is under a boil water advisory.

According to a news release, the water main break happened at around 5 p.m. due to the unidentified fiber optic company.

Officials said that around 10:30 p.m., they were able to “neutralize the water system pressure pump to facilitate urgent repair works on the damaged line.”

The boil water notice is expected to be in place for approximately two days, according to the release.

Officials advise residents and businesses in the town to boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, or similar purposes and to consider using bottled water for these needs.

In November, News 6 reported that fiber optic crews with Colorado-based WIDEOPENWEST or “WOW!” have torn apart residential lawns cable and sewer lines as they cut a path for underground fiber optics across Seminole and Orange counties.

News 6 has reached out to Eatonville officials to inquire what company caused their water main break.
