According to a preliminary investigation, a van with one occupant — its driver, so far described only as a male — was traveling northbound on South Woodland Boulevard while a convertible traveled southbound on the same roadway.

Both drivers entered the intersection and their vehicles collided head-on, police said.

The van’s driver was hospitalized for treatment of suspected life-threatening injuries while the convertible’s driver — identified as Sean Heyne, 37 — was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The crash is still being investigated, the statement reads.
