ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 25-year-old Orlando man for his alleged involvement in a two-vehicle fatal crash that caused the death of two people in 2022, officials said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Christian Carlson was traveling west on University Boulevard approaching the intersection of Pelee Street at a high rate of speed in a 2016 Ford Mustang, witnesses said, when it struck a 2017 Nissan Versa being driven by a 44-year-old Orlando woman and 18-year-old Orlando man.

Carlson, who allegedly wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, investigators said, sped up when the traffic light turned yellow, a witness told troopers.

The Nissan was traveling east on University Boulevard, attempting to turn left, troopers said, when it collided with the Mustang.

As a result, the Nissan turned over onto its left side and was pushed toward the north shoulder of University Boulevard, hitting a pedestrian standing on the sidewalk, FHP said.

Troopers said the driver of the Nissan, the Orlando woman, and the passenger, the Orlando man, were both transported to a hospital and later died from their injuries.

Carlson, the driver of the Mustang, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, FHP said.

He was booked on Tuesday and appeared before an Orange County judge on Wednesday, where he was given a $25,000 bond, records show.

Carlson faces two charges of vehicular homicide and a charge of reckless driving with bodily injury.
