New renderings show potential changing face of Camping World Stadium in Orlando

Rebuilt upper seating, new upper bowl among project goals, architecture firm says

ORLANDO, Fla. – Camping World Stadium in Orlando could be in for a facelift in all aspects fashion to function, according to the architecture firm proposing the new design.

An application received June 27 by the city’s Municipal Planning Board requests a conditional use permit to allow for the expansion and renovation of Camping World Stadium.

Renderings of the potential new design, provided by DLR Group Inc., depict flowing metallic forms rippling around the stadium, a uniform artificial material taking on an organic shape that the firm refers to as “a new modern and fresh building skin.”

In the design narrative, the architecture firm goes on to say its specific project goals include the maximization of stadium seating to 65,000, helped in large part by the addition of an upper bowl on the north side of the structure and the rebuilding of the upper seating bowls on the east and west sides.

“This all-new seating will modernize and increase the overall lifespan of the building, replacing some of the oldest existing components,” the statement reads. “The level of bowl modifications will require addition of new hurricane bracing around the altered sections of the building. Using this structural component as an aesthetic feature a new modern and fresh building skin will be applied to offer a new exterior aesthetic.”

The firm states it wants to include new premium suites and amenities, update the building’s “systems, code and life safety” aspects, and even add a retractable stage pocket in a section of the south seating bowl “to attract more and larger” events.
