Mitchell was stopped near Prospect Avenue and Avon Place, officials said, when a deputy noticed a passenger in the back seat allegedly making “furtive” movements.

The deputy, fully expecting that the occupant was trying to hide something, requested a K-9 for a “free air” sniff after he smelled marijuana coming from the car, officials said.

Deputies said the K-9 alerted to the rear driver side of the car, and a subsequent search led to the alleged discovery of over 20 grams of Fentanyl and cocaine hidden underneath a child’s car seat.

Mitchell, who has prior convictions involving felony drug possession and grand theft, was arrested and faces charges of possession of Fentanyl with intent to distribute, possession of paraphernalia and child abuse, officials said.

Mitchell is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail under a $26,500 bond.
