PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol has its first break toward finding a driver troopers said ran over a woman taking a walk and didn’t stop
The hit-and-run was caught on camera the other weekend on Arabella Lane in Port St. John.
Nine days later, the 55-year-old neighbor is out of the hospital and now recovering from her injuries at home.
The FHP initially believed the old Honda Accord that was involved in the hit-and-run may have been gold or silver, but then in a new photo released, it was clearly gold.
Monday, state troopers said they found the car, and are still working to confirm who was driving.
Vicki Murray was encouraged to hear the news and said her close friend is doing good at home.

“She’s sleeping in a chair with her foot up, full neck brace on, learning to get around the house on a walker right now,” Murray said. “She’s got two plates in her foot, and she’ll need that removed in the future. And then, she’ll do a follow-up on her neck to see if she needs surgery on the three breaks in her neck.”
Murray told Brevard County community correspondent James Sparvero her friend’s mental recovery will be a challenge, as well.
Murray said she’s watched the video several times.
“She said she can handle the flying through the air. It’s the part seeing herself laying there in the driveway,” Murray said. :I think it’s probably gonna haunt all of us, her granddaughter, all of us, for a long time."
Murray wasn’t sure when asked what her friend might say to the person who hit her.
“That’s a hard one,” she answered. “To think that someone left her for dead, it’s hard to imagine the character of that person.”
Murray said now that troopers have the car, she believes an arrest is imminent.
“It will put some closure on that phase of it, and she can begin healing herself,” she said.
The FHP said it’s still collecting more evidence in this investigation.
