CASSELBERRY, Fla. – An 8-year-old boy was shot and wounded Sunday in Casselberry, police said, but he was not the intended target.
The shooting happened around 11:25 a.m. at the GoldElm at Regency Oaks apartments.
Casselberry police said the boy was shot in his upper leg while he was inside his apartment.
The child was taken to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, but his condition was not released by police.
According to police, the shooting was not domestic in nature, nor did it stem from an accidental discharge.
On Monday, investigators told News 6 they believe a man at the same apartment complex was targeted and a bullet ricocheted and hit boy.

Police said witnesses may have seen a vehicle flee the scene.
The department also released 911 audio that reveals some of the aftermath of the shooting. The woman calling for help can be heard describing gunshots and then a quick getaway.
“I heard cars pull out and everything,” the woman told dispatch. “You just heard cars pull off?” the 911 operator asked. “Yes, yes. I just heard a gunshot and then my nephew ran inside.”
Casselberry Police are calling the shooting an “isolated incident” and say the people involved knew each other.
They also announced Monday that the boy was treated at the hospital and has since been released.
Detectives working the case are still trying to determine whether or not a man who was dropped off at a Centra Care location in Orange County with a gunshot wound is also connected to Sunday’s shooting. Police say at this time he is not cooperating with law enforcement.
Detectives continue to conduct interviews and say they are following up on leads.
