ORLANDO, Fla. – The family of Jennifer Kesse, who disappeared in Orlando nearly 20 years ago, shared an update Wednesday, saying the case is “no longer cold.”
Kesse was last seen on Jan. 24, 2006, when she vanished from her Orlando condo near Mall at Millenia.
Orlando police found her car within a few days, about a mile away from her home.
Since then, the best clue investigators found was grainy surveillance video showing a man parking a car, then walking away from the Huntington on the Green apartment complex at Texas Avenue and Americana Boulevard, about a mile away from her complex, Mosaic at Millenia.
Kesse’s father, Drew Kesse, wrote on Facebook that Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents informed them more has opened up in the investigation after actively working on the case.
He said there was DNA found within evidence that hadn’t been tested, which will “hopefully lead to more factual information leading to Jennifer.”
“We were also told that the list of people of interest has been greatly reduced and down to a few individuals they are working heavily on. We knew this would happen once a team truly started to investigate the case. This again is great news,” Drew Kesse wrote.
News 6 spoke with Drew Kesse, who said he has “never felt more positive” about the investigation.
“It’s not cold anymore, (they) told us that directly,” he said. “There’s too much work to do, and it’s fruitful work. It’s meaningful work.”
He also said his family is working with a documentary team to bring Jennifer Kesse’s “story to the world.”
“So even though almost 20 years has passed we still fight the good fight on a daily basis to bring Jennifer home. We thank those who have supported our efforts for so long and continue to. We are grateful, thankful and humbled by your continued love and support for Jennifer and our family,” Drew Kesse wrote.
In 2022, Drew Kesse accused the Orlando Police Department of negligence, saying it was incapable of fulfilling an agreement to provide the family with a digital file of Jennifer’s case.
“Now imagine, over that time, fighting for unredacted copies with the city’s lawyers and trying to have our private investigators find Jennifer from all those files. Then finding out that the lead detective on Jennifer’s case did not write a single report or any document since 2010, 12 years!!!” he wrote at the time. “We firmly believe the department’s negligence and lack of competency cost Jennifer the chance to be found.”
The Orlando Police Department said it was committed to finding answers in the disappearance of Jennifer Kesse.
