6 Things To Do: Nov. 8-9

Weekend of walks, community, parades & festivals

ORLANDO, Fla. – Looking for something meaningful and fun to do this weekend?

I’ve rounded up a few great events happening across Central Florida — from community runs to cultural festivals and Veterans Day celebrations. Here’s what’s going on:

1. Autism Speaks Empower Walk – Altamonte Springs (Nov. 9)

The Autism Speaks Empower Walk & 5K Run is back with a new name, a refreshed look and the same powerful mission — to build a more inclusive world. The walk begins at 10:30 a.m. at Cranes Roost Park, 274 Cranes Roost Blvd., Altamonte Springs.

This event blends the classic Autism Speaks Walk with the energy of a 5K run. Whether you’re participating or cheering from the sidelines, you’ll enjoy a day filled with connection, support and fun. Activities include:

  • 🌐 Resource Fair: Tools and services supporting the autism community.
  • 🤝 Friendship Bracelet Station: Create and share bracelets celebrating unity.
  • 🦸‍♂️ Superhero Sprint: A quick, fun race for all ages—capes included!
  • 📸 Photo Spots: Themed selfie stations throughout the park.
  • 🎉 Plus games, entertainment and more!

2. Orlando Japan Festival – Kissimmee (Nov. 9)

Experience the sights, sounds and flavors of Japan at this year’s Orlando Japan Festival. Held at Kissimmee Lakefront Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festival features authentic music, dance, performances and a wide variety of Japanese food and drinks. It’s the closest you can get to a traditional Japanese street festival without leaving Florida.

3. Space Coast Art Festival – Nov 8-9

Location: The Avenue Viera, Viera, FL

Dates & Times: Saturday, Nov. 8: 9 a.m.– 5 p.m. • Sunday, Nov. 9: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Get ready for a weekend of art and creativity at the 60th Annual Space Coast Art Festival, returning to The Avenue Viera. This outdoor, family-friendly event is free to attend, and parking is free throughout the venue.

Explore original artwork, including painting, photography, jewelry, sculpture, glass, and more. Each booth features handcrafted pieces created by professional artists selected through a competitive jury process.

Before you go:

  • The event is outdoors and walkable — wear comfortable shoes
  • Some artists take credit cards, but bringing cash is a good idea
  • Reusable shopping bags are encouraged
  • Leashed pets are welcome
  • Florida’s November sun can be warm — pack sunscreen, hats or an umbrella

4. Central Florida Zoo – Free Admission for Veterans (Nov. 8–11)

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is honoring veterans and active-duty military with free admission Nov. 8–11. Veterans can also access a BOGO offer for up to six additional tickets, making it easy to bring family and friends. This annual tradition is a heartfelt thank you to those who serve and have served.

5. Veterans Day Parade – Downtown Leesburg (Nov. 8)

Celebrate and honor our nation’s heroes at the Leesburg Veterans Day Parade. Join the community on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. along Main Street for marching bands, decorated floats, veteran groups, and a powerful display of gratitude.

6. Great Day in the Country – Oviedo (Nov. 8)

The 51st annual Great Day in the Country returns to CrossLife Church (45 W Broadway) for a full day of arts, crafts, food, entertainment, and family fun.

This event supports the Oviedo Women’s Club’s largest fundraiser of the year—helping provide scholarships and teacher grants. Last year alone, the club awarded $68,000 to students and educators, contributing to over $1 million donated across five decades.
